Complicated Relationships
♀ + ♂ = ? is a visual exploration of the complicated subject of relationships. In this work I look at issues and events, serious or humorous, which occur as relationships develop. Through my art I address the perceptions, expectations, actions, and reactions of people as they meet, become or are involved with each other. My art, with its seriously playful interactive qualities, acts as a changing record and commentary on the game of love.
Images occur as stereotypes, archetypes and symbols which are paradoxically obvious, ambiguous, or obscure. There are references to powerful expressions of humanity which are found in ancient myths, fairy tales and current cultural beliefs or fantasies. The art challenges the viewer’s perceptions while offering an opportunity to be expressive through interaction with some of the art.
